Global Intrauterine Insemination Devices Market Definition
IUI is an artificial insemination or infertility treatment procedure. IUI devices place washed sperm directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation so that the egg can be fertilized easily. Intracervical, intrauterine, intratubal and intrafallopian are the four main types of IUI. IUI uses different types of cycles depending on the requirements, including IUI with clomiphene (CC), non-medicated IUI and human medication combination (hMG) IUI.
During intrauterine insemination, a catheter is inserted through the cervix into the uterus and clean semen is injected directly. The procedure is painless but may cause mild cramping and some women experience mild spotting after intrauterine insemination. It is widely used by couples facing infertility or those using donor sperm (such as female couples and single women). There are three main types of artificial insemination: intrauterine insemination (IUI), intravaginal insemination (IVI) and intracervical insemination (ICI).
During intrauterine insemination, a sperm sample of about 0.5 ml is used for catheter placement. After the procedure, doctors recommend that you rest in bed for 10 to 15 minutes. The success rate of intrauterine insemination varies from person to person. Women aged 40 have a chance of getting pregnant of about 5%, while women under 35 have a success rate of 10 to 20%.

2024-2036 Global Market Size, Forecast and Trend Highlights
The IUI Devices market size was valued at USD 41.52 billion in 2023 and is likely to reach USD 67.43 billion by the end of 2036, at a CAGR of approximately 3.8% during the forecast period (i.e., 2024-2036). In 2024, the IUI Devices industry size is estimated to be USD 42.94 billion. The growth of the market can be attributed to the increase in infertility around the world. IUI devices are used to test for infertility by placing sperm directly into the uterus when the ovaries release one or more eggs. The main purpose of IUI devices is to increase the chances of fertility. It is estimated that more than 14% of couples worldwide are unable to conceive, which has forced an increase in the demand for IUI devices around the world.
Intrauterine insemination is an artificial process where sperm is placed in the upper uterine cavity to facilitate conception. The purpose of this procedure is to increase the number of sperm inside a woman’s uterus, thereby improving the chances of pregnancy. Catheters, intrauterine insemination media, and sperm washes are some of the intrauterine insemination devices. They are used when women are unable to conceive due to endometriosis. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 10% of women and girls of childbearing age worldwide suffer from endometriosis. This is expected to boost the growth of the global intrauterine insemination devices market. Therefore, all these factors are expected to drive the growth of the market during the forecast period.
Global intrauterine insemination equipment market: growth drivers and challenges
Growth drivers
-
PCOS rates are rising - the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 6% to 12% of women in the United States have PCOS, which affects approximately 5 million women.
PCOS causes excess androgenism and oligoovulation, which is directly related to infertility. A large number of women worldwide suffer from PCOS. For example, about 75% of women worldwide suffer from infertility due to PCOS. This is considered to be one of the major causes of female infertility and is expected to increase the global intrauterine insemination device market size.
-
Surging drug abuse – According to data collected by the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 11 million people worldwide are taking psychotropic drugs. This has resulted in infertility in many couples, which is expected to drive the growth of the intrauterine insemination devices market. It has been observed that excessive use of drugs reduces the fertility of both men and women, thereby reducing the chances of having a baby.
-
Increase in smoking habits - According to a comprehensive study on global smoking trends, the number of smokers exceeded 1 billion in 2019. This affects fertility and is expected to increase the demand for artificial insemination. It is scientifically proven that smoking habits can complicate the process of pregnancy as smoking harms the reproductive system and damages the DNA in sperm.
-
Increased number of cancer cases and chemotherapy – Cancer treatments may lead to poor reproductive health. According to the National Cancer Institute, the global cancer incidence rate is approximately 442 cases per 100,000 people each year. Chemotherapy has been observed to affect the ovaries, causing them to stop releasing estrogen and eggs.
-
Higher prevalence of obesity – As of 2019, there are approximately 2.5 billion overweight people in the world. Obesity affects nearly 39% of the global population. As obesity may lead to inability to conceive, this is expected to drive the global intrauterine insemination devices market. Moreover, 6% of women worldwide have difficulty conceiving due to obesity.
challenge
- Risk of infection - There is a possibility of infection when using intrauterine insemination devices. For example, if bacteria present in the vagina reach the uterus during the insemination process, it may cause infection. Symptoms include pelvic pain, chills, and fever, and there may also be mild vaginal bleeding. Therefore, this factor is expected to hinder market growth during the forecast period.
- Higher costs associated with treatment
- Preference for alternative procedures
Global intrauterine insemination equipment market segment
The global intrauterine insemination devices market is segmented and analyzed based on the demand and supply of end-users, namely hospitals and IVF clinics. Among these segments, the IVF clinics segment is expected to capture the largest market share by 2036. The growth of this segment can be attributed to the increasing number of cutting-edge IVF clinics emerging across the world. Furthermore, the growing demand for assisted reproductive technology (ART) among childless and same-sex couples is expected to drive the growth of this segment. According to the report released by the CDC, about 489 clinics in the U.S. perform 3,226 ART procedures for every 1 million women of childbearing age. Furthermore, IVF clinics are often popular as they have excellent facilities and have access to sperm banks . Hence, all these factors are expected to have a positive impact on the growth of the segment during the forecast period.
The global intrauterine insemination devices market is also segmented and analyzed by product type, including demand and supply of IUI catheters, IUI media, and sperm washing solutions. Among the three segments, IUI media is expected to account for a significant share by 2036. IUI media is targeted at couples who are experiencing infertility due to low sperm count, low semen volume, lack of cervical mucus, endometriosis, unexplained infertility, anti-sperm antibodies, etc. IUI media is highly favored by couples as it is less invasive and less costly than other alternatives such as ICSI and any in vitro fertilization bank services . IUI media does not bring extra weight to the body and is well suited to provide quality sperm as it removes immature germ cells, infectious agents, non-motile sperm, and antigenic proteins. Hence, all these major advantages of IUI media are expected to drive the growth of this segment during the forecast period.

Global intrauterine insemination equipment market regional overview
The North American intrauterine insemination devices market is expected to account for the largest market share among all other regions by the end of 2036. The growth of the market is mainly attributed to the rising incidence of infertility in the region. The growth of the market can be attributed to the surge in the number of infertility treatment clinics set up in developing countries to meet the growing demand for artificial insemination in the region. For instance, in the U.S., 1 in 4 women suffer from infertility, which accounts for 25% of the total heterosexual female population. At the same time, this rate is increasing exponentially with a total growth rate of about 11% per year. Moreover, the surge in drug abuse and increasing smoking habits among adults in the region are expected to further expand the market size during the forecast period. Hence, all these factors are expected to boost the growth of the market during the forecast period.
Furthermore, the global intrauterine insemination devices market is also expected to account for the second largest share in the Asia Pacific region during the forecast period. Rising awareness about assisted reproductive technology (ART) along with the rising prevalence of infertility is expected to accelerate the market growth during the forecast period. Nearly 28 million couples in India prefer alternative treatment options to conceive. Moreover, there are more than 1,600 IVF clinics and hospitals in India that conduct an average of 225,000 ART cycles annually. Moreover, the growing prevalence of drug abuse in the region coupled with the surge in smoking habits is also expected to drive the market growth during the forecast time.
