December 1st, 2020: The World Health Organization (WHO), released an interim guidance regarding the use of mask in the context of COVID-19. The key points included multiple advisories on the use of masks to control the spread of SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19, especially to those who were awaiting viral laboratory test results or were suspected or confirmed of having the disease. The report also shared guidelines on the use of mask in health care settings, community settings, use of masks in children, along with the guidance for the manufacturing of non-medical (fabric) masks.

July 23rd, 2021: The WHO’s Regional Office for Europe and ECDC announced that between June 28th and July 11th, 2021, the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant was dominant in 19 countries of the 28 countries in the Europe region. Moreover, of the surveillance data collected from these 19 countries, 68.3% of the share of these data reported to be the Delta variant, overtaking the previously dominant Alpha variant with 22.3%. Moreover, an advisory to follow the 3Ws, i.e., wearing a mask, washing hands, and watching one’s distance, was also floated by the officials.

May 7th, 2020: 3M Company announced that it had received two contracts from the U.S. Department of Defense for expanding its production of N95 respirators to more than 95 Million per month by October 2020. Back in the month of January, the company had already ramped up production of its respirators around the globe with an output capacity of 1.1 Billion per year.
