The major driver of the open source intelligence market's rapid growth is increasing cyber security threats. The rise of cyberattacks, ransomware, and data breaches has led organizations to adopt OSINT for proactive threat detection. Adopting open source intelligence helps monitor hacker forums, dark web activity, and other online platforms to identify vulnerabilities and mitigate risks.
Organizations engage with increased online activity, and have larger digital footprints, making them more susceptible to cyber threats. OINST tools help monitor social media platforms for signs of data breaches, impersonation, or malicious activities. The Cyber Security Report UK 2024/25 highlights the growing severity of cyber threats. As per the report, 69% of the companies revealed they had fallen victim to a cyberattack at least once in the past two years. Almost 66% of the surveyed companies had no adequate protection against cyberattacks, while only 17% had taken some measures but still considered insufficient. Amongst them, just 9% were found to be equipped with protection against cyberattacks.
