Biogas Compression Sector: Growth Drivers and Challenges
Growth Drivers
-
Integration as Vehicle Fuel - Biogas as a fuel for transport applications is becoming more and more popular. Renewable fuel sources are increasingly needed. There are a number of advantages to biogas as vehicle fuel, e.g. reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector up to 50%. Compared with fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel, 60% to 80%. In the same vehicles that use natural gas, biogas may be upgraded to the quality of natural gas.
- Surging Government Policies and Incentives - One of the potential sources for sustainable growth is biomass. It provides a number of applications that help countries around the world increase their investment in biogas plants. Furthermore, more advanced products are being developed by compressor manufacturers as a result of the potential for compressed biogas in various applications. For example, an important umbrella initiative to convert waste into wealth and promote a circular economy is the Government of India's initiative to develop Galvan Organic BioAgro Resources Dhan. To increase economic growth sustainably and support a greener economy in the country, it is aimed at building an ecosystem that supports the construction of Compressed Biomass Plants.
Challenges
-
Raw Material Scarcity - In the production of biogas, raw materials play a major role. The main challenge remains the lack of availability of basic materials. The supply chain shall ensure a stable and adequate supply of material for the production of CBGs, but their availability is very variable in terms of season, region, or biogas compression market condition. The profitability and viability of CBG projects can also be influenced by feedstock costs.
- Technological challenges are predicted to hinder the market growth in the forecast period.
- Regulatory Barriers are expected to hamper the biogas compression market growth during the projected period
