Automotive Rain Sensor Market size was valued at USD 5.68 billion in 2024 and is likely to exceed USD 11.99 billion by the end of 2037, registering over 6.1% CAGR during the forecast period i.e., between 2025-2037. In the year 2025, the industry size of automotive rain sensor is evaluated at USD 5.95 billion.
The growth of the market can primarily be attributed to the rising technological advancements in vehicles as well as growing installations of radar technology in automobiles worldwide. For instance, it was found that more than 50% of new cars are shipped with one or more radars in 2021, while it is expected that all new vehicles will come with multiple radars by 2042.
Automotive rain sensors detect rain falling on the windshield of a vehicle. Usually, rain sensor implementations employ infrared light and software. The light is beamed at a 45-degree angle onto the windshield from inside the car and if the glass is wet, less light makes it back to the sensor. Next, the software in a rain-sensing system turns on the wipers when the amount of light reflected onto the sensor decreases to a preset level, setting the speed of the wipers based on how fast the moisture builds up between wipes. The system adjusts the speed as often as necessary and may operate the wipers at any speed as often as necessary to match the rate of moisture accumulation. With the recent widespread use of rain sensors as well as other sensors, the demand for automotive rain sensors is on the rise amongst automobile users, which in turn, is expected to create massive revenue generation opportunities for the key players operating in the global automotive rain sensor market during the forecast period. For instance, it is observed that in a modern vehicle today, there are over 70 sensors in total throughout the whole car.
